Two-page Comic Detailing a Post-Hurricane María Scene
After hurricane María hit Puerto Rico in 2017, the entire island’s electric grid went down over half a year. This comic is meant to capture a personal experience of mine a few months after this event. Once I got out of school, I would come home and make coffee on a gas stove in the kitchen. My dad likes his coffee with milk and brown sugar. I would prepare his coffee and my own and climb up a ladder in our backyard to the roof. We kept our generator here, which provided electricity for our fans, lights, and the fridge. My dad spent a lot of time here. Since very few people had electricity, there was no light pollution obscuring the stars in the night sky. Here, we’d sip our coffee and share with each other what we did on that day as the sun set.
